-- DALLAS, TEXAS, USA (November 2025): Fibroid Institute Texas is excited to announce that Dallas fibroid doctors Suzanne Slonim, MD, and Cathryn Shaw, MD, were named to D Magazine’s Best Doctors list for 2025. For Dr. Slonim, this is the 10th time over the past 12 years and the seventh in a row that she has been recognized for the prestigious honor. Dr. Shaw has now earned the distinction in each of the past five years. Award winners comprise highly respected Dallas-based physicians and are chosen annually by area doctors according to specialty. Fibroid Institute has multiple compassionate, patient-centered clinics in the Dallas and Houston areas and offers uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) as the gold standard in non-surgical fibroid treatment.

By performing UFE in-clinic, these Dallas fibroid doctors and their knowledgeable and highly skilled team fulfill a passion for helping women live fibroid-free without resorting to major surgery.

“Our focus is and always has been on helping women overcome their fibroid symptoms and reclaim their lives,” Dr. Slonim said. “That said, prestigious awards like Best Doctors validate our efforts. We are honored to have earned the respect and trust of our Dallas colleagues in the medical community. We are grateful for the honor.”

Dr. Shaw agreed, adding, “It is an honor to be chosen once again. Our goal is to ensure women are well-informed about their treatment options for fibroids, and the support of our partnering physicians helps spread the word. More than 400 physicians refer patients to us—a testament to their trust in us and how much they believe in our ability to perform UFE procedures safely, confidently, and with expert care.”

About Fibroid Doctors Suzanne Slonim and Cathryn Shaw

Dr. Suzanne Slonim is a board-certified interventional radiologist trained to perform minimally invasive procedures with X-ray guidance. Over the past three decades, she has completed over 30,000 interventional radiology cases and currently focuses exclusively on the UFE procedure at Fibroid Institute Texas. In doing so, Fibroid Institute has positioned itself as the only practice in Dallas dedicated solely to treating fibroids and one of only a few across the country. Beyond the walls of her office, Dr. Slonim has been on a crusade to raise awareness about uterine fibroids. Four years ago, she was at the forefront of legislation that made Texas one of 10 states to recognize July as Fibroid Awareness Month. That experience and commitment have helped thousands of women become fibroid-free without major surgery.

Dr. Shaw joined the Fibroid Institute in early 2025 and brings more than 20 years of board-certified experience, having spent most of her career as a partner in one of the largest, high-volume private practice radiology groups in the United States. Together with her team, she has performed over 15,000 vascular and interventional radiology procedures, including UFE. Based on her years in practice, advanced training, and countless quality patient outcomes, she is among the top experienced UFE specialists in Dallas.

Together, Dr. Slonim and Dr. Shaw represent a growing practice that has redefined uterine fibroid care.

According to Dr. Slonim, the necessary characteristics of being selected for D Magazine’s Best Doctors in Dallas include empathy, dedication, persistence, being excellent with referring doctors, and always putting patients’ needs first. “These are traits shared among our entire physician team at Fibroid Institute, and the best part is that all of it comes naturally to us,” she said. “We focus on the patient in front of us at all times, and that always leads to great results.”

About Uterine Fibroids and the UFE Procedure

Uterine fibroids are abnormal growths in the uterus that affect three out of four women, most often between the ages of 30 and 50. Although usually benign, fibroids may lead to life-altering symptoms, such as severe pelvic pain and heavy periods. Fibroids can also cause abdominal bloating, urinary frequency, back pain, and reproductive dysfunction including miscarriage, early labor, and infertility. They are often discovered during routine health exams.

Research indicates that 226 million women globally are affected by fibroids. However, a lack of conversation and widespread misinformation have left many women unprepared for dealing with this condition. Often women are unaware they have fibroids, lack access to proper information or treatment, hesitate to seek help, or dismiss their symptoms as a normal part of being a woman. When they do seek treatment, many are told fibroid surgery is the only option.

Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a non-surgical treatment that utilizes image-guided interventional radiology techniques to navigate a small catheter through the wrist into the vessels that supply blood to the fibroids. At that point, microscopic particles are introduced that block blood flow to the fibroids, causing them to shrink and die while preserving the uterus.

UFE is a safe, fast, and minimally invasive procedure, often providing an alternative to hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) or myomectomy (surgical removal of the fibroids). Patients can go home the same day. Covered by most insurance plans, UFE requires a much shorter recovery time than traditional surgery.

The success rate for the UFE procedure is over 90%.
