Dan Bikel, Head of AI at WRITER
Bikel brings more than two decades of experience in natural language processing, machine learning, and large language models, holding research leadership roles at Google, LinkedIn, IBM, and most recently Meta, where he led applied research for AI agents. His hire reflects WRITER’s continued investment in its in-house research capabilities, critical to maintaining the speed, control, and transparency required to deliver secure, scalable AI systems. As agentic AI adoption accelerates across the Fortune 500, Bikel will shape and lead WRITER’s research agenda to deliver the capabilities enterprise agentic workflows require, spanning reasoning, planning, tool use, memory, adaptation, evaluation and other core areas for production-scale deployment.
“Staying at the forefront of AI innovation doesn’t come from size or speed alone. It comes from grounding breakthrough research in what enterprises actually need,” said Waseem AlShikh, CTO and Co-founder of WRITER. “We’ve built a platform that’s transforming how the Fortune 500 operates, and we’re constantly pushing every layer of our stack to ensure our agents are fast, accurate, reliable, and production-ready. Dan brings the research depth and enterprise focus to take our platform capabilities even further, and his hire shows how high the bar is at WRITER.”
WRITER’s globally distributed research and engineering team has spent the past five years driving breakthrough innovation grounded in real enterprise needs. The company’s approach centers on building LLMs shaped by the realities of enterprise work and developing product capabilities that map directly to customer impact. By tightly integrating research with platform development, WRITER delivers AI that is more reliable, controllable, and transparent. This approach has produced scalable systems for high-stakes workflows, evaluation methods that reflect real-world use, and next-generation retrieval frameworks that safely and accurately connect language models with enterprise data. The research team has additionally made significant strides in the development of self-evolving models, recently releasing a paper on one of the techniques the team expects to use in self-evolving AI systems.
“What drew me to WRITER is that it’s already firing on all cylinders - the models perform exceptionally well and the company is delivering real impact for enterprises,” said Bikel. “Now, it’s about scaling that success. WRITER is one of the few AI startups training models from scratch, which gives us the control needed to do truly cutting-edge work. I’m excited to join a team that’s not just pushing the industry forward, but building agentic AI that can actually work alongside people in meaningful ways.”
Bikel holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania, where his dissertation explored the parameter space of generative lexicalized statistical parsing models. He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University.
